IRCC's new CRS rules took effect on November 3, 2026. The highest possible score is now 1,270, job offers no longer need an LMIA, and invitation rounds are paused while every profile is recalculated.

IRCC's new Express Entry points rules took effect on November 3, 2026. IRCC has published its updated Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) grid and the Ministerial Instructions behind it, and the highest possible score is now 1,270 points, up from 1,200. Every profile in the pool is being recalculated, and invitation rounds are paused until that is finished. The last round was on October 28. We explained the new rules when IRCC announced them on October 16. This is what is now in force.

Extra CRS points do not guarantee an invitation to apply. Each round sets its own cut-off.

What changed on November 3?

  • A new Labour Market Integration factor. It replaces the old Canadian work experience line and counts the higher of two routes, never both: Canadian work experience (35 to 80 points for how long you worked, plus 20, 40 or 70 if at least 12 months, or 1,560 hours, were in a high-wage occupation), or a qualifying job offer in a high-wage occupation (50, 70 or 100 points).
  • The factor tops out at 150 points without a spouse or partner, and 140 with one.
  • No LMIA is needed for a job offer to qualify, and having one gives no extra points or priority. The offer can be for a new or an existing position, with a new or an existing employer. An officer still checks that it is genuine when you apply for permanent residence.
  • High-wage means the occupation's NOC code, not your salary. IRCC's list has 186 NOC codes at three levels.
  • Skill transferability points have not changed. They still count only how long you have worked in Canada.

What is the new maximum CRS score?

IRCC's Ministerial Instructions, updated on November 3, 2026, set the total at 1,270 points. Only the core section changed:

The extra 70 core points make room for the new factor, which can reach 150 points (140 with a spouse or partner), where Canadian work experience used to stop at 80 (70).

When will Express Entry draws resume?

IRCC says recalculating every profile could take up to two weeks, and that invitation rounds are paused until it is finished. It has not given a restart date. The last round was on October 28, 2026: Transport occupations, 150 invitations, lowest score 477. Cut-offs from before November 3 were set under the old scale, so they are not a guide to the first rounds under the new rules. The first new round will appear on our draws page.

Do job offers for Federal Skilled Worker and Skilled Trades eligibility still need an LMIA?

No, for candidates invited on or after November 3, 2026. IRCC has now published the temporary public policy behind this. It took effect on November 3 and stays in force until the Minister revokes it. The offer must still be real: from an employer actively engaged in its business, consistent with the employer's reasonable needs, with terms the employer can fulfil, in an occupation in which you have past work experience or education, and from an employer with no previous non-compliance with the federal or provincial laws on employment or recruitment in the province where you will work. An offer outside the high-wage list can still help you qualify for these programs, but it earns no CRS points.

What should candidates do now?

  • Check the NOC code in your profile against the duties you actually performed, not your job title. It now decides your high-wage points. Our NOC finder can help, and our list of the 186 high-wage occupations shows each level.
  • If you have a qualifying job offer without an LMIA, follow IRCC's profile instructions exactly. Its system has not been updated yet, so IRCC asks you to answer that a positive LMIA was issued, enter 00000 as the LMIA number, and use January 1, 2026 as the issue date and January 1, 2029 as the expiry date.
  • Do not plan with old cut-off scores. Wait for the first rounds after the recalculation before judging your chances.
  • See your score under the new rules. Our free CRS calculator now uses the November 3 rules and shows your previous-rules score beside it. For a worked example, see 431 before, 501 after November 3.
